Aroma cups, or wen xiang bei, are typically used in preparing tea Gongfu style. After pre-heating the cups, the prepared tea is poured into the tall aroma cup and the shorter drinking cup is placed inverted over the top of the aroma cup. Held together, both are flipped, placing the drinking cup on the bottom. As the scent cup is lifted out of the sipping cup, air is pulled through the tea, trapping the fragrance of the infusion in the emptied cup. The scent cup can then be rolled back and forth between the palms as you inhale its fragrance.
